A self love weekend away, UK

Do you ever have those days where you feel like you need a bit of ‘me’ time? I’ve had a few of those moments this year and yes, for me most of those times have occurred just because I’ve had actually too much time on my own! With all the lockdowns and restrictions this year I needed to get away for a few days.

I ended up booking myself a night at the De Vere Wokefield Estate, a lovely hotel just outside Reading, set in 250 acres of ground and offering a whole host of facilities such as swimming pool, gym and golf course.

I’m not much of a golfer but I treated myself to a gym and pool session and also loved the big open communal areas that the hotel offered. Perfect for a working from home space! I paid £76 for the night on a Sunday.

Reading City Centre was about a 15 minute drive away so I parked up and took a walk around, strolling over the River Kennet and taking a stroll around the Oracle shopping centre.

After one of the best nights sleep I’d had in a long time (I nearly slept past check out!) I woke up and headed over to my lunch reservation, The Woodspeen, about 30 minutes away.

A Michelin star restaurant, The Woodspeen, is set in a stunningly modern restored farmhouse and delivered me one of the best meals I’ve had in as long as I can remember.

From 12pm- 3.30pm Monday to Friday they serve a lunch menu which offers 3 courses for £35 and the quality of the food makes this exceptional value.

The menu changes seasonally, I chose a soup starter, a fish main and a chocolate dessert. Each course was absolutely divine, the service attentive without being overbearing and despite being a solo diner I was comfortable with the warm atmosphere.

It was the perfect end to my solo weekend, which gave me a lot of confidence with solo travel! Could you do a solo restaurant experience? Let me know
